Faculty Feature: Meet Tricia Lane, Externship Development in Anaheim

Tricia Lane is our Faculty Feature at U.S. Colleges in Anaheim. Tricia is in Externship Development and works closely to build relationships with externship sites to help students prepare for their career.

What is your role here at the Anaheim campus?

In a nutshell, I seek out and best Externship opportunities. I meet with facility executives to build strong relationships so our students can fulfill their clinical hours for licensure. After all approvals are made, I work with the site manager on a weekly/hourly schedule and implement ongoing site visits. I make it a point to meet as many site staff as possible, so they get to know me and feel comfortable with U.S. Colleges, from there I make necessary monthly site visits to make sure that the sites and students are holding up to the agreement and address any concerns.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

My experience with U.S Colleges has been one of the best in my life. I make it a point to tell the students at orientation how I am a product of use and how far I’ve come since I enrolled. My advice would be to believe in yourself, keep pushing even when it seems impossible, to never look back and to always ask for help because it will ALWAYS be there.

If you were to take a program here, what would that be and why?

I have successfully completed the Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT) course. I love working with people, helping and comforting them. I took the CPT course because I wanted a more meaningful career, I hadn’t a clue that I would be working for U.S. Colleges by the time I finished. I count my blessings daily and am so grateful to be part of this family.

In your opinion, what is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is that I help students benefit from an amazing experience by procuring high profile Externship sites. This helps give them the confidence that they made the BEST decision choosing to come to the Anaheim campus. I have also had the chance to work with our industries’ most knowledgeable instructors. I have the best of both worlds.

What do you think you will remember most about your time here?

I will always remember how much we all truly care for each other, continuously lifting each other and cheering each other on. Even though this is a big company, the word that first comes to mind is FAMILY. This is not only within our faculty, but this also includes the students as well.

Is there a particular co-worker you admire here? Why?

If I really had to choose, I would have to say Miss. Williams. She was also my instructor and saw in me what I didn’t. She never stopped encouraging me. She tirelessly instructed the class and kept it fun and engaging. She made me believe in myself and was my biggest cheerleader for every accomplishment no matter how small. All of this continues today, I made a friend for life in her.

What is the best success story you have witnessed while at U.S. Colleges?

I’d have to say my own success story. I’ve accomplished more in the months I attended school at U.S. Colleges than in the past 25 years. I thought I was being overly ambitious however I had a real, true support system. U.S. Colleges gave me the confidence not to give up and to believe in myself, that I could do it and that I was worth it!!

What has surprised you the most since starting at U.S. Colleges?

How much everyone cares for one another. I have NEVER worked for a company where co-workers deeply care for one another. Again, I have to say not only how lucky I am to be a product but also a part of the U.S. Colleges family!!
