Administrative Assistant

What is an administrative assistant?

In today’s world of political correctness we no longer have secretaries, we have administrative assistants.  It is an industry dominated by women.  A whopping 94% of all administrative assistants are women.  The tasks required by someone in this position are as varied as the businesses that would hire them, but often include: running errands, typing, managing the office needs.  With that said, because of how business function now online and more technologically advanced, an administrative assistant is now a much more qualified position.

Administrative assistants can manage a work schedule, make an appointment, conduct research, take a dictation, make a phone call, send an email, and make a pot of coffee!  Usually all from their smart-phone…well minus the coffee.

A real quality assistant has a intimate working knowledge of the office functions.  They are the consummate multi-tasker, with good memories,  ability to compartmentalize data into lists of most important to least important with ease.  A perfect movie example of this would be Anne Hathaway’s character in “The Devil Wears Prada”.

Having a quality administrative assistant can be the difference between a good business and a failing one.  A lacking in this key position will cause a business to come to a stand-still until the position can be filled.  Often people who are skilled in this profession will have great job security, because they are so hard to find.
