In order to become a professional medical coder, a candidate has to pass the medical coding examination. However, in order to be considered for employment by most employers, they will need to sit for a different medical coding certification examination that will make them ready for stable, flexible and financially rewarding careers in the medical field. A fresh graduate just out of college with a medical coding certification is more likely to be hired over an experienced coder without a medical coding certification.
